Hi, I am Almeyra Gutierrez. I am the founder of A&E Counseling.

I am fluent in English and Spanish.

I graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude, from The University of Houston Downtown with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. I received my Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston Main Campus in 2012.

As a former elementary teacher, I fell in love with helping children and families receive the resources they need to be successful.

I completed my practicum at Family Services of Greater Houston. There, I provided therapy to families, couples, adults, adolescents, teens, and children with an array of concerns including depression, sexual abuse, adjustment disorder, infidelity, body image, anger management, phobia, interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships.

I have worked as a Mental Health Liaison and Mental Health Counselor, providing mental health services and crisis support to both students and staff from elementary to high school. I also worked as a Professional School Counselor for six years and have been part of the district crisis team. In these roles I provided therapy and counseling to adolescents, at-risk youth and children through group counseling, support groups, crisis management and individual counseling for many concerns including; depression, grief, bullying, trauma, self-esteem, social skills, anxiety, attachment and separation disorder, stress, conflict and resolution and ADHD/ADD among other concerns. I also provided crisis support to students and staff members at campuses that experienced a loss of a student or a staff member.

I have served in multiple school committees as a professional counselor and 504 case worker. I created multiple 504 plans and helped many students receive the accommodations and services they needed to excel including IEP (Individualized Educational Program). I also assisted students with disabilities and behavior issues.

In addition, I have lead trainings on trauma, grief, college and career, social emotional learning, anxiety and bullying for campuses, staff members, counselors and the district. I have also facilitated a number of Mental Health and Counseling presentations for parents.

I'm EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained, ASSYST (Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization Procedures) trained for early intervention and rapid response, and TAG (Trauma and Grief Component Therapy) trained.

At A&E Counseling, I offer therapy to couples, families, adults, adolescents, and children. I enjoy working with diverse individuals and helping people grow and heal.

I also offer parent/guardian consultation services to help children receive the appropriate services and accommodations in school.

I specialize in working with children (4 years and up), adolescents, at-risk youth, groups, adults, couples and families with an array of psychosocial needs.

My counseling approach to therapy is an Eclectic approach. I selectively apply techniques from a variety of approaches to best fit your individual and family needs. I look at all aspects of an individual and family unit. I often draw techniques from the following counseling approaches; Client-Centered, Existential, Mindfulness, Cognitive-Behavioral, Systemic, Narrative, Creative Therapy, Solution Focused and Gottman.

At A&E Counseling our mission is to provide effective therapy and counseling tools to help you and your family reach your goals in a safe and non-judgmental space.
